Young Offenders

03 July 2012

Gina Brooks from Dyslexikit will be visiting a Young Offenders Institution in Bristol on 13th July to show the Access Literacy Programme to their education department.

It is estimated that more that three-quarters of the current prison population in the UK cannot read. It is also estimated that the reoffending rate drops from 90% to 10% if the released person goes straight from prison into work! Isn't that an amazing statistic?

One sure way to increase the chance of securing work is by learning to read, spell and write. We're hoping that Access Literacy finds it's way into the education departments of young offenders units as soon as possible in order to contribute to those chances for young adults before they leave custody.
