JCQ Exam Regulation

06 March 2012

As many of you will know, student eligibility for extra time in educational examinations has always been controversial and hotly defended by those who work with students with literacy difficulties.

Member of Parliament for Luton North, Kelvin Hopkins, led a recent debate in Westminster Hall to discuss changes made by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) which may disadvantages some pupils with dyslexia. The British Dyslexia Association (of which Dyslexikit Limited is a member) has met with JCQ to discuss possible amendments to the wording in their regulations but this may take some time to come into force since Ofqual need to consult and comment.

Sarah Teather MP, Minister of State for Children and Families says, "We are absolutely committed to reforming the support for children with special educational needs and disability and we will say much more in the new year."
